The legal deadline for the end of landfills has already passed. PLANARES requires that almost 50% of waste be recovered by 2040. And 40.3% of everything that Brazilians discard still goes to inappropriate places, around 87 thousand tons per day. Waste to Energy (WtE) is no longer a technology of the future but an urgent need of the present.
